Henkel-Wallace works in oil and in a large format, creating a fresh synergy combining the techniques of 19th Europe with a contemporary approach to composition and subject matter.
For the last seven years Henkel-Wallace has been exhibiting regularly, showing work both in group and solo gallery shows and has delivered several commissions. Her work is collected in the United States and in Europe.
While she works in her studio in California she references her personal experiences of growing up in Germany: her closeness to the woods, to the seasons and to the animals. Her current work draws from a set of rituals almost forgotten in modern society. This search for hidden cultural threads is not just specific and personal to her but embodies a universal human need, as the development of cultural amnesia is a universal manifestation of modern life.
